WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Freshman forward Kayla Tutino (Lorraine, Que.) was named Hockey East Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
The rookie sensation scored three goals and added two assists in a pair of Terrier wins this past weekend. She was responsible for both game-winners, with Saturday’s clincher against Connecticut coming on the penalty kill. Tutino is tied for the national lead with three shorthanded goals.
On Sunday against Providence, Tutino scored the final two goals of the game in a 3-2 win. Her game-winner came on the power play with 7:17 remaining in regulation. In both games, Tutino had a hand in the goal to tie the game as well as the tally to win the game.
The Lorraine, Que., native is now first in Hockey East and third in the nation among freshmen goal scorers. Tutino is also currently riding a three-game point streak, with three goals and three assists in that stretch. It is her second three-game point streak of the season, with her first coming from Oct. 15-22.
The Terriers will be back in action this weekend when BU heads to Ithaca, N.Y., to face off against Cornell on Friday and Saturday. The Terriers defeated the Big Red, 4-1, in the national semifinals last year to advance to the national title game.
