BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team started the second half with a 15-2 run and never looked back en route to a 71-44 victory over Rhode Island on Saturday at Case Gym. With their second consecutive win, the Terriers improve to 3-2 on the season.

Senior guard Alex Young, who prior to the contest received a commemorative basketball for scoring 1,000 career points, paced all scorers with 18 on 8-of-16 shooting. Named America East Player of the Game, junior guard Chantell Alford added 15 points and tied a career high with seven steals. Senior forward Caroline Stewart contributed a season-best 13 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, while sophomore forward Rashidat Agboola rounded out BU's double-digit scorers with 11 points and added seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

Leading 32-27 at halftime, the Terriers came out firing in the second half with three straight three-pointers from Alford, Young and junior guard Mo Moranthat pushed the BU lead to 14.

URI stopped the bleeding with a Emilie Cloutier basket, but the Terriers scored six straight in the next five minutes to build a 47-29 lead. The closest the Rams would get the rest of the way would be 13 (51-38) with 9:39 left, but a subsequent 9-0 BU run put the game out of reach.

The Terriers played suffocating defense in the second half, holding URI (1-5) to just five field goals on 26 shots (19.2 percent). BU held a 44-37 rebounding advantage for the game and forced 17 turnovers while committing just nine.

URI was led by Cloutier and Ajanae Boone, who scored 12 points apiece.

BU is back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 30, when the Terriers hit the road for a 7 p.m. game against crosstown rival Harvard.
