The fifth-ranked Boston University women’s hockey team returns home after a five-game road trip, as the Terriers host sixth-ranked Boston College at Walter Brown Arena this afternoon at 3 p.m.
BU (6-3-1, 1-0-0 WHEA) dispatched the Eagles (5-3-1, 2-2-1 WHEA), 4-1, on Wednesday night at Conte Forum. Senior captain Jenn Wakefield notched her 100th career goal and assisted on Isabel Menard’s power play strike to lead the Terriers. Menard also added an assist on Louise Warren’s first goal of the year, while junior defenseman Kathryn Miller poured in her first goal of the year, which proved to be the game-winner. In all, six different BU skaters recorded a point.
Sophomore Kerrin Sperry stopped 30 shots on Wednesday to earn her fourth win of the season. She has now made at least 30 saves in seven of her eight starts this season, including the last five. She has allowed just one goal against BC in league play in three starts.
The Terriers penalty killers went 6-for-6 against the Eagles’ power play, which is tops in the conference entering this weekend. BU owns the fourth-best penalty kill in the nation.
BC is in the midst of a two-game skid, with the Eagles getting outscored, 9-3, in that stretch. Freshman Alex Carpenter still leads BC with six goals and 11 points. Junior defenseman Dru Burns leads the team with six assists, while Taylor Wasylk (3-4—7), Emily Field (3-4—7) and Blake Bolden (2-5—7) are tied for second on the Eagles in scoring.
Junior netminder Corinne Boyles made just 11 saves on Wednesday night and allowed four goals. The Eagles’ defense held BU to just three shots in each of the final two periods, but the Terriers found the back of the net on two of their three shots in the final frame.
