NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Terriers garnered goals from five different players, but the Boston University lacrosse team fell to No. 14/19 Notre Dame, 14-5, at Arlotta Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Playing their third ranked team in the past four games, the Terriers dropped to 3-3.
Junior Molly Swain paced the squad with two points (1g, 1a), while senior Erica Baumgartner, junior Catie Tilton and sophomores Danielle Etrasco and Kristen Mogavero scored one goal each.
Senior Rachel Collins collected an assist and two draw controls, while sophomore Brittany Carlin recorded a game-high six ground balls. Freshman goalkeeper Christina Sheridan started for the third straight game and made a career-high 12 saves.
The Terriers scored on 2-of-5 free-position shots, while only allowing one Notre Dame (3-3) free-position goal on six opportunities. Notre Dame held a 22-17 advantage in ground balls and collected 13 draw controls to BU's eight.
The Fighting Irish scored the game's first four goals as they took a 5-3 first-half lead. Swain and Mogavero scored back-to-back free-position goals to close the gap, 4-2, with 13:42 remaining in the opening frame. After Notre Dame took a 5-2 advantage, Collins assisted on Tilton's goal with 1:35 left to make it a two-goal game.
In the second half, the Fighting Irish outscored BU by a 9-2 margin. After Notre Dame took a 7-3 lead, Etrasco brought the Terriers closer when she scored her team-leading 16th goal of the season at 16:51.
Notre Dame then tallied seven straight goals in 5:07 span before Baumgartner scored with two seconds remaining in the game to account for the 14-5 final. Swain collected an assist on the play.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday (March 19) when they play Denver at 3 p.m.
