Sophomore Danielle Etrasco paced the Terriers with six points (3g, 3a), but the Boston University lacrosse team fell to No. 19 William & Mary, 15-11, at Albert-Daly Field on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, BU dropped to 1-2.
Juniors Hannah Frey and Molly Swain and sophomore Kristen Mogavero recorded two goals each, while junior Annie Stookesberry added a goal for the Terriers. Freshman Elizabeth Morse tallied her first collegiate marker and senior Rachel Collins collected a game-high five ground balls.
Sophomore Kim Elsworth started for BU, allowing five goals and making one save in 9:56 of work. Freshman Christina Sheridan played the remainder of the contest for the Terriers and stopped 10 shots.
BU was 2-for-6 on free position shots, while William & Mary (2-1) was 5-for-15. The Terriers controlled the ground ball battle, 18-16.
BU scored six times in the first half, but the Tribe answered with at least one goal nearly every time the Terriers put the ball into the back of the net. After Swain opened the scoring 1:15 into the game, William & Mary scored twice in a 1:04 span to take a 2-1 advantage.
Frey then scored just under five minutes into the game to tie the contest. Junior Catie Tilton collected an assist on the play.
The Tribe answered with two straight goals, but Etrasco tallied her first of the game with 22:29 left in the half to close the gap, 3-2. William & Mary then made it a 4-2 game before Swain tallied her second marker of the contest at 12:23.
The Tribe ended the frame on a 5-2 run. After scoring three straight goals, Stookesberry and Morse tallied for the Terriers at 18:44 and 20:21, respectively, to make it an 8-6 contest. William & Mary added two more markers to take a 10-6 lead at the half.
Mogavero opened the second-half scoring with 27:45 left in the half, but William & Mary scored four straight goals to take a 14-7 advantage.
The Terriers then garnered their best offense of the day, as they scored four consecutive goals in a 15:05 span to close the gap, 14-11.
Frey tallied her second of the game at 9:21, then Mogavero scored from Etrasco with 7:49 left in the contest. The Massapequa, N.Y., native then tallied a free position goal 30 seconds later. She added her third goal with 5:34 left in the game.
William & Mary closed out the scoring with 2:09 left to account for the 15-11 final.
The Terriers will return to action on Wednesday (March 9) when they host No. 11/15 Dartmouth at 4 p.m.
