BOSTON - Senior Brittany Heist found the back of the net twice and sophomore Madison Clemens scored her first collegiate goal as the Boston University women's soccer team (7-2-1) defeated Yale (3-3-2), 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

Heist opened the scoring at 10:14 before Yale retaliated 11 minutes later. At 62:42, Heist put away the game winner off a corner kick from sophomore Kylie Strom, and Clemens sealed the victory with a goal at 89:38.

BU controlled the run of play throughout most of the game and outshot the Bulldogs by a commanding 16-4 advantage. It held a 6-2 edge in corner kick opportunities, which proved to be a vital part of its offense as both of Heist's goals came off them.

Sophomore Kelly King played all 90 minutes in net and made two saves in the victory.

Heist lit up the scoreboard in the 11th minute after BU drew a corner kick on the near left side. Senior Jessica Luscinski sent the ball into the box and a flurry in front of the net ensued in which two shots by senior Tiya Gallegos and freshman Jamie Turchi were blocked. Heist then collected a loose ball and slotted it into the lower right side of the net as it snuck through a handful of defenders.

Yale tied the game in the 22nd minute when Kristen Forster fed the ball to Enma Mullo from the top of the box. Mullo got behind the BU backline and chipped it over King for her second goal of the season.

In the second half, the BU offense came out on a mission with increased pressure on the Yale defense and it paid off in the 63rd minute when it drew a corner kick on the near right side. Strom sent in a perfectly-placed cross that Heist ran on to, getting her head on it and sending it to the far left side, leaving Yale netminder Elise Wilcox with no chance of making the stop.

The Terriers sealed the victory with just 22 seconds left on the clock. Yale goalkeeper Elise Wilcox went to clear the ball out of danger, but Clemens intercepted the clearance and from midfield scored her first collegiate goal.

BU will look to carry its momentum into the America East slate as it opens conference action on Sunday, Sept. 25 at Albany. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.

NOTES: At halftime, head coach Nancy Feldman and the women's soccer program honored Deidre (Enos) Lovett ('00) with the program's first-ever jersey retirement ceremony. Wearing No. 3, Enos was a standout student-athlete for the Terriers and graduated in 2000 following a spectacular career in the scarlet and white that culminated with the program's first-ever All-America First Team nod. BU's all-time leading scorer with 121 points (51g, 19a), Enos guided the Terriers to their first-ever NCAA tournament appearance in 2000 after defeating Hartford, 4-1, in the America East title game. Lovett also went on to become the first Terrier to play in the WUSA and was invited to the National Team Training Camp in 2001.
