BOSTON - The No. 2 Boston University women’s ice hockey team takes to the ice for the first time this season, as the Terriers host Ottawa of the Provincial Women’s Hockey League in an exhibition on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.

BU is coming off a season in which it became the first Hockey East program to compete in the national championship contest. The Terriers finished 2010-11 with a 27-7-4 mark and won the Hockey East regular-season crown after posting a 15-3-3 record in conference play.

The Terriers return their top two scorers from last season in senior captain Jenn Wakefield and sophomore forward Marie-Philip Poulin. Wakefield, in her first season at BU, posted program records in goals (32) and points (54) for a single season. She was a Hockey East First-Team All-Star and a Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award nominee.

Poulin was the 2011 Hockey East Rookie of the Year and the only unanimous selection to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team. She finished second on the team in scoring with 47 points (24g, 23a) and potted the lone goal in the national championship game against Wisconsin. She was also Hockey East First-Team All-Star and a Patty Kazmaier nominee.

Sophomore Kerrin Sperry will be an option between the pipes for head coach Brian Durocher on Saturday. Sperry, the 2011 Hockey East Goaltending Champion, had a fantastic freshman season in which she boasted a 1.63 goals against average and a .929 save percentage.

Ottawa will enter Saturday’s game fresh off an exhibition clash with Northeastern on Friday evening. Entering the weekend, Addi Halladay leads the Senators with two goals and two assists for four points. Six skaters are tied for second on the team in scoring with two points each. Goaltending duties have been shared by Amanda Leveille (5 GP, 2-1-1, 1.34 GAA, 1 SO) and Cassie Charette (3 GP, 2-0-1, 1.17 GAA, 1 SO).
