BU Continues America East Regular Season Dominance
BOSTON - The Boston University women’s soccer team will host New Hampshire at Nickerson Field on Sunday afternoon for its final America East conference game. BU clinched its sixth straight America East regular season title earlier this week and will look to continue its 31-game winning streak against conference opponents.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the first 200 will receive a t-shirt. BU will be honoring seniors Brea Hewitt and Jessica Morrow in a ceremony shortly before the 1 p.m. start time.
Following Sunday’s game, the Terriers will be honored for claiming the regular season conference championship and presented with a trophy by the America East.
Banned from the America East tournament due to the school’s move to the Patriot League in 2013, the Terriers will be unable to compete for their sixth consecutive championship crown. Following Sunday’s game, BU will await word on a possible NCAA at-large bid. The selection show will air live on NCAA.com at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5.
BU (11-6-1, 7-0-0 AE) looks to finish the regular season with an undefeated conference record for the fifth time in program history when the Wildcats come to Boston on Sunday. The Terriers saw their eight-game winning streak snapped on Thursday with a 2-1 non-conference loss at Dartmouth. Senior Madison Clemens scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season but the Big Green responded with two unanswered tallies to defeat BU.
The Terriers enter Sunday’s game with 29 goals on the season with 12 different players finding the back of the net. Behind Clemens’ team-high 16 points, senior Brea Hewitt and sophomores Ana Cuffia and Taylor Krebs are tied with seven points each. Hewitt and Cuffia have identical 3-1-7 stat lines while Krebs has netted one goal and dished out a team-best five assists.
Junior Andrea Green has started every game in net for the Terriers. She has stopped 62 shots for a .795 saves percentage and a 0.89 goals-against average. Green owns seven shutouts on the season with four coming against conference opponents.
UNH arrives in Boston with a 5-10-2 overall record and a 3-3-1 mark in conference play following a 1-0 double overtime loss against Stony Brook on Thursday.
The Wildcats have notched 16 goals on the season and are led by Kirstyn Corder, who has scored five goals and added three assists for 13 points. Meghan Ledwith is second on the team with four goals and an assist for nine points.
Erica Correa has started every game in net for UNH and tallied 76 saves on the season for a .760 saves percentage. She owns a 1.42 goals-against average and has posted three shutouts on the season.
Michael Jackson is in his 18th season as head coach of the Wildcats and owns a 131-180-33 overall record.
BU owns a 16-3-1 advantage in the all-time series against UNH with New Hampshire's last victory coming in overtime fashion on Oct. 4, 2002. Since then, the Terriers have posted an 11-0-1 mark against the Wildcats.
