Terriers Down Eastern Michigan, 66-55

YPSILANTI, Mich. - With scoring contributions from eight different players, the Boston University women's basketball team defeated Eastern Michigan, 66-55, Friday night at the Convocation Center. BU improves to 3-2 on the season while EMU falls to 1-3.

Seniors Chantell Alford and Mo Moran tied for the team lead with 16 points each. Junior Rashidat Agboola added 11 points for the Terriers and Whitney Turner led the team with eight rebounds. Junior Danielle Callahan scored nine points while senior Kristen Sims added six points and five rebounds.

The Eagles were led by Olivia Fouty, who finished the game with 13 points and nine rebounds. India Hairston added 11 points for EMU while Taylor Bird chipped in eight points and nine rebounds.

BU ended the game with a 43.3 field goal percentage while EMU shot 32.8 percent from the field. The Eagles out-rebounded the Terriers, 49-35, but committed 16 turnovers compared to BU's 10.

EMU scored the first basket of the game but BU had the lead for the remainder of the first half, as the Terriers took a 36-23 advantage into the locker room at the break. BU led by as many as seven points early in the first half before five unanswered points from the Eagles made it a two-point game 12-10, with 12:13 to play in the period.

The Eagles kept it close and BU held a slim, 20-18 lead with 5:28 showing on the clock. Back-to-back layups from Turner and Moran extended the margin and freshman Katie Poppe knocked down the first jumper of her career to put the Terriers up, 26-20, with 3:55 to play. Miranda Tate hit a 3-pointer for EMU on the other end but BU closed out the half with a 10-0 run, including consecutive treys from Alford, to end the half with a 36-23 advantage.

BU began the second half with five unanswered points and a pair of free throws from Tate at the 15:54 marked the first points of the half for EMU. The Eagles then scored their first field goal since 3:50 of the first half with a layup from Hairston with 15:04 on the clock.

The Terriers took their largest lead of the night at 8:21 with a 3-pointer from Alford to give BU a 60-39 lead. Callahan preserved the 20-point cushion with a trey at the 6:10 mark. EMU then closed out the game with an 11-2 run but BU finished with the 66-55 victory.

BU continues its Michigan road trip with a visit to Ann, Arbor, Mich., tomorrow (Saturday) to play the University of Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
