COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior captain Jenn Wakefield (Pickering, Ont.) is one of 30 nominees for the 15th annual Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, which is annually bestowed upon the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey.
Held in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Frozen Four, the 2012 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award will be awarded at a brunch ceremony on March 17 at the Greysolon Ballroom in Duluth, Minn.
Wakefield was also a nominee last season, her first at Boston University. She was a top-10 finalist in 2009. This season, she is the Hockey East leader in points (47) and assists (24), while her 23 goals rank her second among conference skaters. Wakefield is tied for 13th among NCAA goal-scorers and is 17th in the nation in scoring.
The Pickering, Ont., native garnered Hockey East Player of the Month honors for October and January, and she became the first player in Hockey East history to score 100 career goals on Nov. 2. Wakefield is four points away from 200 for her career; she will be the second skater in league history to reach the 200-point plateau.
The 34 NCAA Division I women's ice hockey head coaches will select the top-10 finalists from among the group of 30 nominees, with the announcement taking place on March 1. A 13-member selection committee will choose the three finalists (announced March 8), as well as the award recipient, which will be announced live at the brunch ceremony in Duluth on March 17.
The Terriers will return to action on Sunday (Feb. 26), when they host New Hampshire in the Hockey East Quarterfinals at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m.
