Women's Lacrosse Drops 14-11 Decision to No. 7/10 Notre Dame

BOSTON - Freshman Mallory Collins scored five goals for the second time in her young career as the Boston University women's lacrosse team lost, 14-11, to No. 7/10 Notre Dame Saturday afternoon at Nickerson Field.

In addition to the five goals from Collins, junior Danielle Etrasco tallied two goals and an assist while classmate Kristen Mogavero posted a pair of goals. The Terriers also received a goal and assist from senior Molly Swain. Becca Church netted a goal as well, and sophomore Christina Sheridan stopped eight shots for BU.

Notre Dame opened the game with eight unanswered goals spanning the first seven minutes of action, culminating with Caitlin Gargan converting on a free position shot with 13:02 remaining in the first to put the Irish on top, 8-0.

Etrasco won the following draw control for BU and Collins posted the first goal of the game for the Terriers at 12:37. Mogavero then added her first tally of the night 32 seconds later following a blocked attempt by Swain.

The Irish added their ninth tally of the first half with 10:32 remaining before BU tacked on two more goals from Collins. Notre Dame notched the final goal of the half at 6:04, as Lindsay Powell converted on a free position shot to put the Irish ahead, 10-4, at the break. The second half began with another goal from Notre Dame before BU notched its first goal of the half. Mogavero got her second marker of the game at 26:58 and Swain scored shortly after at 26:16 to bring the score to 11-5.

Church netted a free position tally just over two minutes later and Etrasco added her second goal at 22:50 to bring the score to 11-8 in favor of the Irish. After an Irish goal, Collins score two times during a three-minute span, to bring BU within two, 13-11, with 8:30 to play.

Both teams went scoreless until there was just over a minute remaining when Lindsay Powell netted the Irish's final goal with 1:04 showing on the clock. BU won the final draw control of the game but could not get off a shot as the Terriers fell to Notre Dame, 14-11.

Notre Dame out-shot BU, 32-19 and won the draw control battle, 16-11. The Terriers collected 17 ground balls and went 11-of-16 for clear attempts.

BU returns to action at California on Wednesday, March 14, at 8 p.m.
