WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Marie-Philip Poulin of the Boston University women’s hockey team was named Hockey East Player of the Month, the league office announced on Thursday.
The Beauceville, Que., native earned the honor after she recorded nine points (4g, 5a) in three games in March. Poulin was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament team after she notched three points (1g, 2a) against Boston College and then assisted on both goals in a 2-1 double-overtime victory over Providence in the Hockey East title game. She then collected four points (2g, 2a) in an NCAA Quarterfinal contest at Cornell to conclude the month.
The sophomore forward finished the year with 25 points (11g, 14a) in just 16 games played this season. Poulin missed 18 games in the first semester due to injury, but upon her return she notched at least one point in 13 of her 14 games.
Poulin, along with teammates Jenn Wakefield and Tara Watchorn, is one of 29 players currently at Canada's National Women's Team selection camp, which began on March 26 and runs until April 1. At the conclusion of the camp, 23 players will be chosen to compete at the 2012 IIHF World Women's Championship from April 7-14 in Burlington, Vt.
