OTTAWA – Senior Jenn Wakefield and sophomore Marie-Philip Poulin of the Boston University women’s ice hockey team were each named to Canada’s National Women’s Team, Hockey Canada announced on Sunday.

The pair of Terriers will represent Canada at the 2012 IIHF World Women’s Championship, which will be held in Burlington, Vt., from April 7-14. Wakefield and Poulin will also be joined by former BU defenseman Catherine Ward on this year’s roster.

Wakefield will be making her second straight appearance at a World Championship, as she was on last year’s Canadian squad that claimed silver. The Pickering, Ont., native has a sterling senior season in which led Hockey East in goals (29) and points (57) and was a New England Division I All-Star, a Hockey East First Team All-Star, and the Hockey East Tournament MVP. She also became the first skater in Hockey East history to reach the 100-goal plateau and the second skater in league history to collect at least 200 career points (120g, 86a).

Poulin will play in a World Championship for the third time in her career, as she was on the squad in 2009 and 2011. A 2010 Olympic gold medalist, Poulin played in just 16 games this season for the Terriers due to a first-semester injury. She compiled 11 goals and 14 assists on the season and did it in just 13 of her final 14 games. The Beauceville, Que., native was named to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team and finished the year on a six-game point streak (7g, 9a).

Canada will look to win its 10th gold medal at the championship and first since 2007.
