JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Highlighted by two top-eight finishes in the 1,500-meter race, the Boston University track & field team had a successful first day at the NCAA East Regional, as four Terriers advanced to the quarterfinals. The University of North Florida is serving as host.

A national runner-up in the mile run at the NCAA Indoor Championships, sophomore Rich Peters took third in his heat with a time of 3:46.77, just 0.40 seconds behind the winner, Villanova's Sam McEntee. Peters finished with the eighth best time out of the four heats. He will next compete in the quarterfinals on Saturday (May 26) at 6:30 p.m. and will need to finish in the top five of his race or post one of the next best two times to reach the NCAAs.

Sophomore Monica Adler had similar success in the 1,500m on the women's side, placing fifth in the third heat with a time of 4:22.37, which was the seventh best time overall. Villanova's Emily Lipari won the heat with a time of 4:21.37. The quarterfinals will take place Saturday at 6:45 p.m.

Needing to finish in the top three of his 400m hurdles heat, sophomore Stephen Vitale took second at 51.87, marking the 18th best time overall. Mississippi State's Nathan Arnett won the heat by a 0.61-second margin. The quarterfinals will take place Friday (May 25) at 7:30 p.m. with the top three from each race plus the next three best times advancing.

Junior Tewado Latty missed out on an automatic berth to the quarterfinals in the 400m heat by finishing fourth at 47.07. However, his time proved to be the ninth best time remaining, allowing him to move forward. He edged Hampton's Je'von Hutchison by 0.02 seconds and will next compete on Friday at 6 p.m.

Four other Terriers have yet to compete. Junior R.J. Page will race in the 200m on Friday at 8 p.m., while junior Allison Barwise looks to advance in the high jump at 5 p.m. Sophomore Rosa Moriello will race in the 5,000m on Saturday at 8:45 p.m.
