CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Boston University men's and women's track and field teams swept the America East weekly awards, the conference announced on Tuesday.
On the men's side, senior R.J. Page was named Track Performer of the Week and freshman Reuben Horace was named Field Performer of the Week. It was another sweep for the women's team, as senior Allison Barwise (field) and graduate student Katie Matthews (track) were both honored for the second straight week.
Page earned his first conference recognition of the season after he broke his own school record in the 200m dash at this past weekend's Terrier Invitational. The senior sprinter finished with a time of 21.25 seconds, which is now the America East standard this season. Page also owns the third-best America East time in the 60-meter dash (6.91).
Horace continued his stellar freshman campaign over the weekend with a victory in the weight throw this past weekend. With a toss of 18.77 meters, Horace now has the best throw in the America East by over a foot. Horace was one of two Terriers to post a victory at the Terrier Invitational.
Barwise tied for first in the high jump at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 25, as she achieved a height of 1.80m. It is the second victory of the season for the Orange, Conn., native, as she also won the pentathlon at Harvard in her first meet of the season. Barwise still owns the top conference mark in both the high jump (1.81m) and the pentathlon (3835).
For the second year in a row, Matthews broke a school record in the 5,000m run at the Terrier Invitational. This season, she shattered last year's mark by six seconds with a time of 15:46.13, second fastest in the NCAA. Her time is also tops in the America East by more than a minute and a half. In addition, the Rocky Hill, Conn., native also owns the top NCAA time in the 3,000m run (9:14.71).
The Terriers will be back in action this weekend as BU will have athletes compete at the Collegiate Invitational in New York, N.Y.
