EASTON, Pa. – Behind a pair of first-half goals, the Boston University women’s soccer team downed Lafayette, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon at Oak Stadium in the first-ever meeting between the two Patriot League foes.

With the win, BU extends its unbeaten streak to five games and improves to 9-3-2 on the season and 4-1-0 in Patriot League play. Lafayette drops to 1-4-0 in the conference and 5-6-1 on the year.

Senior Emma Clark and sophomore Clare Pleuler each scored their first goals of the season to power the Terriers to victory. Senior goalkeeper Andrea Green made three saves in net for the Terriers, as BU earned its ninth shutout of the season.

The Terriers dominated the Leopards in terms of shots, holding a 17-3 advantage for the game. All three of Lafayette’s attempts were on net while the Terriers placed seven shots on goal. BU also held a 5-1 edge in corner kick opportunities.

Clark got BU on the board in the 19th minute with an unassisted tally. The senior took a bouncing ball from the top of the 18-yard box and blasted a shot to the left side of the net out of the reach of Lafayette’s Danielle Sedillo to give BU a 1-0 lead.

Just before the end of the half, Pleuler added to the Terriers’ lead with her first goal of the season. Freshman Erica Kosienski dished out her first career assist when she fed a cross to Pleuler who received the ball near the penalty kick spot. Pleuler sent the ball to the back of the net to give BU a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

The Terriers’ offense dominated in the first half of play, registering 12 shots in the first 45 minutes, while Lafayette did not record a single shot attempt. The Leopards first chance did not come until the 61st minute when Alex Reisinger put a shot on goal that was saved by Green.

Allie Torru later placed the ball on net in the 71st minute for Green to make the stop. Reisinger again tested the Terriers’ keeper in the 79th minute but could not find the back of the net.

After a dominant first half, the Terriers attempted just five shots in the second period and were unable to put the ball on target and add to their 2-0 lead.

BU will play its final non-conference game of the season on Wednesday (Oct. 16), when the Terriers travel to Hanover, N.H., to face Dartmouth. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
