Women's Swimming Claims Third at Terrier Invitational
BOSTON - The Boston University men's swimming team finished in second place in the three-day Terrier Invitational held from Friday (Nov. 22) through Sunday (Nov. 24) at the Competition Pool.
Boston College finished in first out of the three men's teams competing with 1143 points while the Terriers posted 1100 points. Massachusetts claimed third with 938 points.
Senior Tim Bouiver posted the top finish for BU in the first event of the day, the 1650 freestyle, with a time of 16:15.27. Junior Alec Pokornowski (16:19.68) and senior Knox Anderson (16:23.80) took seventh and eighth, respectively.
The Terriers earned the top two spots in the 200 backstroke, led by junior Connor Stuewe's first-place finish in 1:48.24. Senior Nik Astashinsky claimed second with a time of 1:49.77 while Anderson placed eighth in 1:57.68.
Junior Cole Puchi clocked in at 45.41 to finish in second place in the 100 freestyle while classmate Andy Vazquez tied for fourth with a time of 46.07. In the 200 breaststroke, freshman Austin Dickey was the top finisher for BU with a time of 2:04.88. Junior Mario Caballero (2:05.88) and senior Jeff Thomas (2:06.87) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, while junior Rodrigo Gonzalez claimed eighth (2:09.50).
Sophomore Mun Hon Lee was victorious for the Terriers in the 200 butterfly (1:49.79) while classmate Tanner Cridland claimed fifth (1:55.99). BU also received points for Caballero's sixth-place finish (1:56.07) and Pokornowski's seventh-place showing (1:57.80).
In the final event of the meet, the 400 freestyle relay, the quartet of Puchi, Stuewe, Vazquez and freshman Brian Habacivch were victorious with a time of 3:02.72. The group of juniors Lincoln Kupke, Ryan Bach, Dickey and Thomas claimed third in 3:07.70
The Terriers return to action on Saturday, Dec. 7, when BU hosts Yale the Competition Pool. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
