WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Sophomore Sarah Lefort of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Lefort had one of the best three-game stretches in program history this past week. She scored seven goals and added four assists for 11 points, including two four-point games and one three-goal game.

Her historic week began at Northeastern on Dec. 3 when she notched her second career hat trick and added an assist to help the Terriers earn a 5-2 win. Two of her three goals came in the third period and she assisted on Louise Warren's game-winning marker in the final frame that broke a 2-2 tie. It was the first four-point effort of her collegiate career.

The Ormstown, Que., native followed that performance up with three points (2g, 1a) in a 6-5 win over Minnesota Duluth on Dec. 6. She scored the game winner in the third period after blocking a shot in her own zone and converting the ensuing breakaway chance. Lefort helped BU complete a weekend sweep of the Bulldogs when she tallied twice and added two helpers in a 4-2 win on Dec. 7.

Lefort now leads the NCAA with 15 goals and is tied for first in the league and ninth in the nation with 25 points (15g, 10a). She is also tied with Warren for second in the country with four game-winning goals.

The Terriers were also saluted by Hockey East as the league's Team of the Week. BU improved to a perfect 8-0-0 in conference competition with its win at Northeastern and extended its Hockey East win streak to 23 games. The Terriers finished 2013 with a perfect 20-0-0 record in league play and also posted a 16-0-0 home record during the calendar year.
