NEWTON, Mass. – Despite a career-high five goals from junior Elizabeth Morse, the Boston University women’s lacrosse team suffered a 12-9 setback to Boston College Wednesday afternoon at BC’s Newton Campus Lacrosse Field.

The Terriers and the Eagles were tied, 4-4, at the half, but BC outscored BU, 8-5, in the second stanza to claim the victory. BU drops to 2-4 on the season.

Morse led BU with five goals, including three free position tallies. Senior Danielle Etrasco was second on the team with three points (1g, 2a). Etrasco and Morse are the only two Terriers that have registered at least one point in every game this season.

Senior Kristen Mogavero, junior Becca Church and freshman Sofia Robins also scored for the Terriers while sophomore Lindsay Weiner added an assist.

Junior goalkeeper Christina Sheridan made nine saves on the afternoon.

The Eagles dominated the Terriers in draw controls, 18-5, and also held a 10-4 advantage in ground balls. Both teams were awarded five free position attempts, with BC converting 2-of-5 and BU scoring on 3-of-5 opportunities.

BC opened the scoring with a goal from Sarah Mannelly just under three minutes into the game but the Terriers evened the contest at 1-1 with Etrasco’s team-leading 18th goal of the season with 24:08 remaining in the half.

Morse scored her first goal of the game off a dish from Etrasco to give BU a 2-1 lead and spark a string of three unanswered goals for the Terriers. Robins found the back of the net with 18:12 remaining in the half and Mogavero scored off a feed from Etrasco to put BU ahead, 4-1, with 17:41 left in the opening half.

The Eagles closed out the first stanza with a 3-0 run of their own to send the game to halftime tied at 4-4. BC extended its run in the second half by scoring the first five goals of the period to take a 9-4 advantage with 22:45 to play.

Morse got the Terriers back on the board with a free position shot to make it a 9-5 game with just over 20 minutes to go and then brought the Terriers within three goals, 9-6, with her second free position goal.

The Eagles won the ensuing draw control and responded eight second later with a goal from Mikaela Rix before Morse scored on her third consecutive free position shot with 13 minutes to play.

BC again took advantage by winning the draw control and firing a shot past Sheridan to take an 11-7 lead but the Terriers retailed, as Mogavero controlled the draw and Morse added another goal to make it 11-8 with 11:22 to play.

Church scored with 2:12 remaining to bring the Terriers within two, 11-9, but the Eagles scored the final goal of the game with 1:39 remaining to claim the 12-9 victory.
