STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Facing its first of three straight scheduled America East opponents, the Boston University men's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Stony Brook on Saturday afternoon.
The Seawolves (2-9) held off the Terriers (6-6) with two doubles wins and three singles victories.
BU battled in doubles but came up just short, as Stony Brook pulled out an 8-3 win and 8-6 victory at the No. 1 and 2 matches, respectively, with the No. 3 contest tied at 7-7.
Sophomore Chanon Varapongsittikul claimed the Terriers' lone point at No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-0 win against the reigning America East Player of the Week Mons Knudtzen.
Senior Josh Friedman held a 4-2 lead in the third set before Rick Timmerman rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory in the top slot.
Owning a 6-4, 5-2 lead, freshman Eric Miller was on track to capture a second point for the Terriers at No. 6 when the contest was called after Stony Brook earned the necessary four points.
Freshman Stefan Lemire rallied from a set down and was in a 2-6, 6-2, 2-2 deadlock when the No. 5 match was suspended as well.
The Terriers will next visit Binghamton on Saturday (April 20) at 11 a.m.
