DURHAM, N.H. – The Boston University women’s lacrosse team fell just short in its comeback attempt as New Hampshire edged BU, 13-12, Wednesday afternoon at Cowell Stadium. The loss moves the Terriers to 5-7 on the season and 2-3 in America East action.

Senior Kristen Mogavero led BU with four goals and added an assist for five points while classmate Danielle Etrasco also had five points coming from three goals and a pair of assists.

Freshman Sofia Robins netted two goals with both tallies coming in the final minute of the game during the Terriers comeback rally.

Juniors Sydney Godett and Elizabeth Morse each added a goal for BU while freshman Jenny Thompson also found the back of the net.

BU outshot New Hampshire, 27-25, while junior Christina Sheridan finished with five saves. The Terriers held a 17-15 advantage in ground balls while the Wildcats held a slight lead in draw controls, 14-13

The Wildcats opened the game with three unanswered goals within the first seven and a half minutes of action before Godett got the Terriers on the board with an unassisted tally with 20:23 to go in the first half. Godett’s goal sparked a 3-0 run for BU, as Mogavero and Morse both scored on free position shots within a minute and a half of each other to tie the game at 3-3 with 18:25 remaining.

New Hampshire regained a one-goal advantage with just under 13 minutes to play in the period but Etrasco scored her first goal of the game with an assist from Mogavero with 7:43 on the clock to tie the game again at 4-4. The Wildcats responded with another string of three unanswered goals to build a 7-4 lead with 3:52 to play but the Terriers scored the last goal of the half, as Mogavero found the back of the net again with an assist from sophomore Lindsay Weiner to send the teams into the break with New Hampshire leading, 7-5.

The Wildcats scored the first two goals of the second half to take a 9-5 lead, their largest of the game thus far, with 25:45 to play. Etrasco scored the first goal of the half for the Terriers but New Hampshire regained the four-goal advantage off a tally from Jenny Simpson with 15:36 to play.

Etrasco connected with classmate Mogavero to make it a 10-7 game with 13:54 to go before both sides went scoreless over the next six minutes. With 7:36 remaining, Molly Gaffey extended the Wildcats lead to 11-7.

Thompson scored on a free position attempt for the Terriers with 6:55 on the clock and Mogavero followed with an assist from Morse to cut the Wildcat’s lead to 11-9 with 5:25 to play. New Hampshire took a three-goal lead, 12-9 with 3:05 on the clock before the Terriers scored a pair of goals within 26 seconds of each other. Etrasco recorded an unassisted tally with 1:18 remaining and Robins made it a one goal game, 12-11, with a goal that was assisted by Etrasco with 52 seconds left in regulation.

New Hampshire found the back of the net again with 20 seconds remaining but the Terriers did not stop fighting, as Robins scored her second consecutive goal with eight seconds remaining to cut the Wildcats’ lead to 13-12. New Hampshire won the following draw control and held onto possession for the final seconds of the game to claim the 13-12 victory.

BU concludes the America East portion of its schedule on Saturday (April 20), when the Terriers travel to Long Island to take on No. 10/10 Stony Brook. Game time is set for 1 p.m. in Stony Brook, N.Y.
