The Boston University field hockey program honored its 2012 team at its annual banquet on Sunday, April 21, at George Sherman Union.
Ella Gunson was named the team's Most Valuable Player and goalkeeper Jess Maroney received the team's Most Improved Player Award. Gunson led the squad in both goals (9) and assists (7) while Maroney, a former walk-on, posted a nation-best .825 save percentage in her senior year.
Junior Ysi Schieb received the team's Unsung Hero Award and redshirt sophomore Ally Alfonso took home the BUFHA Spirit Award. Freshman Rachel Feig was the recipient of the team's Strength & Conditioning Award.
All of the team's all-conference, all-region and All-America honorees were recognized, including several academic accolades, as the team posted a cumulative GPA of over 3.0 this year.
Head coach Sally Starr spoke about each team member and the contributions that led to a season in which BU finished 15th in the final NFHCA national poll. Associate head coach Tracey Paul put together a slideshow and highlight video.
Each of the nine departing seniors were honored and thanked by one of their teammates. Jacinda McLeod and Kiley Allosso spoke on behalf of the senior class to close out the banquet.
