BURLINGTON, Vt. - Seniors Kaleigh Fratkin and Louise Warren each lit the lamp, but the No. 9/10 Boston University women's ice hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision at Vermont on Friday night at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

BU (16-7-1, 9-4-0 WHEA) twice tied the game, but Vermont (10-12-4, 6-6-1 WHEA) scored the game-winning goal with 1:30 remaining in regulation and added a late empty-net tally to seal the victory. It is the first time the Catamounts have defeated BU since Jan. 22, 2010.

Sophomore Sarah Lefort extended her point streak to 10 games with a two-assist night. Classmate Lillian Ribeirinha-Braga also added an assist, her eighth of the season. Senior Kerrin Sperry stopped 26 shots.

After a scoreless first period, Vermont took a 1-0 lead just 1:45 into the second period. However, Fratkin evened the score at the 12:25 juncture of the stanza. She began the play by picking up the puck in the neutral zone and getting it to Lefort. The sophomore winger carried it up the right side and fired a shot on goal that Roxanne Douville stopped. The rebound came to Fratkin, however, and she made no mistake in securing her third goal of the season.

The Catamounts made it 2-1 at the 2:54 mark of the third period when Kellie Dineen scored from point-blank range. Nearly three minutes later, Warren tied the game thanks to a spectacular individual effort. Ribeirinha-Braga moved the puck from her own end to Lefort, who in turn found Warren at the UVM blue line. She dashed up the left side and cut towards the goal before slipping the puck past Douville for her 17th goal of the season.

Both teams played at a frantic pace until Vermont eventually capitalized on a 2-on-1 rush to take the lead for good. Junior Caroline Campbell made a diving effort to block a pass, but the puck landed on Sarah Kelly's stick and she beat Sperry with the ensuing shot.

The teams will conclude the weekend series on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m.
