BOSTON - The Terriers used an early goal to beat the top team in the Patriot League, Colgate, despite the harsh elements at play on Wednesday night at Nickerson Field. BU (10-4-3, 4-1-2 PL) came away with a 2-0 victory on a cold and rainy night to earn two important points towards the conference standings and gave the Raiders (11-2-2, 5-1-1 PL) their first conference loss of the season.

The game, which was televised nationally on American Sports Network, was a key victory for BU and keeps its hopes alive for a Patriot League regular season title.

Boston U pressured on offense early, getting two shots off, one blocked and one saved before Taylor Krebs scored the game-winner in the fifth minute of play. Heading into the wind, the junior forward escaped her defender and shot it far side to give the Terriers the advantage and eventual win.

The weather kept much of the game at midfield for the majority of the first half, but after defending three straight corner kicks, BU found an opportunity at the other end. Ana Cuffia took a shot on an essentially open net but it was blocked by a defender and bounced over to Christina Wakefield, who took a dribble and sent it to the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

After getting a shot off in the first minute of the second half, Colgate was denied any offensive tries for the ensuing 37 minutes, meanwhile the Terriers had two tries on net and two that went wide.

Krebs tried once more in the closing minutes of the game but couldn't get another one past the Colgate goalie and the Terriers came away with a dominant win over the best team in the Patriot League.

Boston U's defense was sound, holding the Raiders to just four total shots throughout the game, none of which were on target.

The Terriers play their final home game of the regular season on Sunday when American visits for a 2 p.m. match on Nickerson Field.
