The fifth-ranked Boston University women's ice hockey team will visit Vermont on Saturday in the Terriers' final road game of the semester. Puck drop at Gutterson Fieldhouse is set for 4 p.m.
BU (10-3-2, 6-2-0 WHEA) is 4-0-1 in its last five games, having allowed two goals or fewer in each of those tilts. The Terriers have opened 2-0 leads in all four of their wins during that stretch and have trailed for just over 22 minutes in their last 305 minutes of action.
Despite the Catamounts having swept BU in Burlington last season, the Terriers own a 20-4-3 all-time record against Vermont, including a 9-4-1 record at Gutterson Fieldhouse. Prior to this past January, the Terriers had won eight straight games against Vermont and were unbeaten against the Catamounts in the past 11 contests. Junior Kayla Tutino has tallied a point in five of her seven career games against Vermont, notching three goals and adding six assists while senior captain Marie-Philip Poulin has scored six goals and recorded two assists against UVM.
The Terriers boast the fourth-ranked offense in the nation, averaging 3.47 goals per game. In addition, BU is tied for fourth in total goals with 52 and is seventh in scoring margin, outpacing its opponents by an average of one goal per game. Part of the team's scoring prowess has been its depth, as 15 different skaters have lit the lamp this season. Junior Sarah Lefort leads BU with 11 goals, followed by Poulin and freshman Victoria Bach with nine apiece.
Vermont has an 8-8-1 record, having played great against non-conference teams (7-2-1) and struggled against league foes (1-6-0). The Catamounts have lost four straight games thanks to weekend sweeps at the hands of Northeastern and Maine, with the Black Bears taking both tilts last weekend at Gutterson Fieldhouse. UVM has lost six straight league games after opening with a win against Connecticut on Nov. 2.
Senior Amanda Pelkey and junior Dayna Colang each have eight goals and a team-best nine assists to tie for the team lead with 17 points. Senior Brittany Zuback is Vermont’s top goal scorer with 11 markers. Sophomore Madison Litchfield, who was the starting goaltender in the Terriers’ 6-0 win over UVM last season, owns a 2.62 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage in 14 games this season, including 13 starts.
Following Saturday's showdown, the Terriers will close their first-semester schedule with a home date against Providence on Monday night. Puck drop at Walter Brown Arena is set for 7 p.m.
