BOSTON - The Boston University women's lightweight rowing team began its spring season on the Charles River Saturday, competing against Harvard and MIT in the Lightweight Beanpot. The lightweights from BU had a strong showing, defeating MIT in the V8 race while finishing just behind Harvard.

The varsity eight boat, coxed by junior Anna Martin and stroked by sophomore Callie Bouzane, finished in second place with a time of 6:54.7, well ahead of third place MIT and just behind winner Harvard's time of 6:46.7.

In the 2V8 race, the BU boat again defeated MIT and finished behind Harvard, this time by under 6 seconds.

In the 3V8 race, BU defeated Harvard in a tight race. Coxed by freshaman Keela Sweeney and stroked by junior Maggie Beaton, the Terriers finished with a time of 7:19.6, just 1 seond ahead of Harvard.

The BU lightweights will next race in the Knecht Cup in Collingswood, N.J. on April 19 and 20.
