PROVIDENCE, R.I. - In the final tune-up before the Patriot League Championship, the Boston University golf team took second out of 13 squads at the Brown BEAR Invitational hosted by the Metacomet Country Club on April 13-14.
BU carded a two-day score of 648 (321-327), 10 shots ahead of Fairleigh Dickinson and 11 more than Brown. Harvard won the team title with a score of 628 (310-318).
Three Terriers finished in the top 11, with junior Kristyna Pavlickova (82-76) placing tied-for-fourth at 158, six shots behind Harvard's Tiffany Lim (73-79). Pavlickova's 76 proved to be the lowest score of round two.
Sophomore Emily Tillo (74-86) tied for seventh with a 160, while freshman Adela Cejnarova(83-78) tied for eleventh with a 161. Junior Flor Canedo (82-89) carded a 171 for 32nd, and sophomore Maddy Silverman(88-87) totaled a 175 for 43rd place out of 72 competitors.
BU also won a food drive competition at the event by donating the most food for Blessings in a Backpack. The organization provides elementary schoolchildren who are on the Federal Free and Reduced Price Meal Program with a backpack of food to take home for 38 weekends during the school year.
The Terriers will next participate in the Patriot League Women's Golf Championship, which will be held at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. on April 19-20. The Terriers, Bucknell, Holy Cross, host Lehigh and Navy will compete in a 54-hole event, with the first 36 on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday.
