BU Falls at Harvard, 11-6

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Boston University women’s lacrosse team suffered an 11-6 setback at Harvard on Wednesday night at Harvard Stadium.

Junior Lindsay Weiner led BU (6-9, 4-3 Patriot League) with two goals and an assist while senior Elizabeth Morse and redshirt sophomore Mallory Collins also scored two goals apiece. Junior Jenna Boarman and sophomore Jill Horka each recorded an assist.

Freshman Caroline Meegan made five saves in goal while senior Becca Church collected a team-high five ground balls.

The teams were even with 22 shots apiece while Harvard’s Kelly Weis finished with seven saves. The Crimson (8-5, 3-2 Ivy League) held a 10-9 edge in draw controls and a 14-11 advantage in ground balls.

With the game tied at 1-1, Harvard score three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead with 12:22 remaining in the first half. The Terriers called a timeout to regroup and scored a pair of goals out of the break. Weiner earned a free position attempt for the Terriers but opted to dish the ball to Morse, who cut in front of the net to make it a 4-2 game. BU won the following draw control and quickly scored again, as Boarman dished to Collins to bring the Terriers within one, 4-3, with 10:51 to play.

The teams traded a pair of free position goals, with Collins netting her second of the game, to make it 5-4 with 5:44 to go in the half. The Crimson scored the last goal of the opening period to take a 6-4 advantage into the break.

Harvard scored the first goal of the second half 2:30 into the period and Weiner responded with her second tally of the game 19 seconds later to keep BU’s deficit at two, 7-5, with 27:11 remaining. The Crimson then scored four unanswered goals to build a 10-5 lead with 8:22 on the clock.

Morse broke BU’s scoring drought with a strike following an assist from Horka with 4:57 to play. The Crimson added a goal with 22 seconds on the clock to seal the 11-6 victory.

BU returns to action on Saturday (April 19) when the Terriers will host Bucknell for the final Patriot League game of the regular season. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and the Terriers will honor their six seniors in a pregame ceremony.
