BOSTON – Playing its final Patriot League game of the regular season, the Boston University women’s lacrosse team will host Bucknell on Saturday (April 19) at Nickerson Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
Saturday is Senior Day for BU and the Terriers will honor Nell Burdis, Becca Church, Sydney Godett, Christie Hart, Elizabeth Morse and Christina Sheridan in a ceremony prior to the game.
Having already clinched a spot in the six-team Patriot League tournament, the Terriers are still battling for the right to host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday (April 22), when the No. 3 seed hosts the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed hosts the No. 5 seed. BU (6-9, 4-3 PL) can earn a home game with a win and a loss by either Colgate or Lehigh.
Saturday’s game is also important for Bucknell (4-11, 2-5), as the Bison are battling for the final spot in the field and can get in with a win over the Terriers and a loss by Holy Cross. The Terriers and Bison have not faced each other since March 31, 1996, when Bucknell defeated BU, 12-8, in Boston.
After winning five consecutive games, including their first four Patriot League contests, the Terriers have dropped their last four outings, following an 11-6 loss at Harvard in Wednesday’s non-conference match-up. BU is 3-2 in games played at Nickerson Field this season.
Junior Lindsay Weiner leads a balanced offense that features five Terriers with at least 20 points. Weiner has a team-high 29 points from 14 goals and 15 assists while senior Elizabeth Morse leads the Terriers with 20 goals. Fellow senior Becca Church (19g, 4a) and redshirt sophomore Mallory Collins (18g, 5a) are tied for second on the squad with 23 points while sophomore Jill Horka (16g, 5a) has 21 points.
Horka has had the most success for BU in the circle with a team-high 27 draw controls while senior Nell Burdis is second on the team with 19. Horka also leads the Terriers in ground balls (27) and caused turnovers (20).
Freshman Caroline Meegan has played the majority of the minutes in goal for BU with 14 appearances and 12 starts. She has an 11.03 goals against average and a .418 save percentage. Senior Christina Sheridan had appeared in seven games while making three starts and owns a 10.85 goals against average and .368 save percentage.
After starting the season 0-10, Bucknell has won four of its last five games, including a 13-8 triumph at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Tuesday for its first road win of the season.
Senior Katelyn Miller leads the Bison with 36 points from 24 goals and 12 assists while junior Emily Kookogey is second on the team with 17 goals and six assists for 23 points. Four other players have reached double-digits in goals while freshman Maddy Molinari is the third Bison who has recorded more than 20 points (13g, 8a).
Junior Caroline Collins leads Bucknell with 45 draw controls while Miller has a team-high 36 ground balls and 32 caused turnovers.
Freshman Elizabeth Duswalt has started all 15 games in goal for Bucknell and allows 13.23 goals per game while owning a .348 save percentage.
Next up for the Terriers is the Patriot League tournament, which begins on Tuesday with the quarterfinals. The tournament seeding, as well as times and locations, will be determined after the results of Saturday’s games.
