BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Led by junior Kristyna Pavlickova's second-place finish, the Boston University golf team took second at the Patriot League Championship this past weekend at Saucon Valley Country Club.
Trailing by nine shots entering Sunday's final round, the Terriers charged up the leaderboard and finished just three shots behind Bucknell. They carded a third-round score of 302 to finish with a 54-hole total of 933. The Bison won with a score of 930. Lehigh, which hosted the tournament, placed third with a 939 while Navy (1028) and Holy Cross (1174) rounded out the five-team field.
The Terriers saved their best for last, with five golfers posting a score under 80 for the first time in program history. Pavlickova secured second after a 76 on Sunday. She totaled 226 (76-74-76) to finish two shots behind the winner. Freshman Adela Cejnarova earned Rookie of the Year honors after she tied for fifth with a three-round score of 235 (79-80-76). It is the third straight year that BU has boasted a Rookie of the Year honoree.
Sophomore Emily Tillo had the Terriers' best round of the day with a 74 to soar into a tie for seventh with a 238 (88-76-74). Junior Flor Canedo (84-81-79) and sophomore Maddy Silverman (83-85-76) each had their best round of the tournament on Sunday to finish in a tie for 12th with a 244. Senior Christine Silen closed a terrific collegiate career in a tie for 17th with a 251 (82-86-83).
Head coach Bruce Chalas was named Patriot League Coach of the Year in a vote by the league's coaches. It is the second time he has been honored as a conference's Coach of the Year. The Terriers also had three golfers earn All-League honors; Pavlickova and Cejnarova were first-team selections while Tillo earned second-team accolades.
BU sank nine birdies on Sunday after finishing Saturday with 21 birdies. This weekend marked the second straight time the Terriers had a runner-up finish in a conference tournament.
