This summer, GoTerriers.com will once again count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.
Coming in at No. 10 in this year's Terrier Twelve is Nestor Taffur's standout senior season for the Boston University wrestling team.
Taffur entered the 2013-14 season with high hopes and appeared in all the preseason national rankings at 157 pounds.
Thanks to 19 wins in his first 20 matches - including a title at the season-opening Bearcat Open - Taffur rose in the rankings and closed out the tournament portion of the season with an impressive third-place showing at the prestigious Southern Scuffle.
Taffur turned in a perfect 14-0 record in dual competition, including 11 wins against EIWA competition. A year after capturing the CAA title, he went on to claim the EIWA title with a victory over Marcus Scheidel of Columbia in the championship bout. His opening-round win over Brown's Justin Staudenmayer was the 114th of his career, passing Chris Studer '94 for the most in Terrier history.
At the NCAA tournament, he was awarded the No. 6 seed in the 157-pound bracket, marking the highest see any Terrier received at nationals since Earl Walker went in as the No. 2 seed in the 1995 NCAAs.
Taffur picked up pins in his first two matches at NCAAs to stretch his win streak to 18 matches and reach the quarterfinals. He came up one win short of All-America status, however, and finished his season with an impressive record of 37-4, matching the second-most in a single season by a BU grappler. His ended his collegiate career with a record of 119-47.
