HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Emily Tillo earned her first collegiate win to help lead the Boston University golf team to a victory at the season-opening Dartmouth Invitational on Sunday at Hanover Country Club.
Tillo fired a second-round 74 to finish atop the leaderboard with a two-day total of 144 (70-74), even par for the tournament. She held a two-shot advantage after 18 holes on Saturday and finished three shots clear of the second-place competitor.
BU had its best 36-hole score in program history, as the Terriers finished with a total of 595. Saturday's score of 291 was a program record and it gave the Terriers a 17-shot cushion entering Sunday. A final-round 304 was enough to complete the 18-stroke victory, with Boston College finishing a distant second at 613.
All five Terriers were under 80 for the second straight day, while junior Maddy Silverman was impressive as an individual on Sunday, firing a 74, which tied Tillo for the low round of the day. Sophomore Adela Cejnarova finished third with a two-day total of 149 (72-77), one stroke ahead of senior Kristyna Pavlickova, who was tied for fourth thanks to back-to-back rounds of 75.
Senior Flor Canedo was the fourth Terrier in the top 10, finishing tied for ninth after a 36-hole score of 152 (74-78). Freshman Phyllis Tang had a strong collegiate debut and secured a tie for 14th with a total of 155 (76-79). Silverman surged up the leaderboard on Sunday with her 74 to finish tied for 18th (82-74) after starting the day tied for 41st.
The Terriers will have a weekend off before teeing off at the 54-hole Yale Intercollegiate, held Sept. 26-28.
