The Boston University men's and women's track & field teams will compete at the Patriot League Championships at Navy’s Wesley A. Brown Field House this weekend from Friday to Sunday.
The championship begins with the women's pentathlon on Friday followed by the first four events in the men's heptathlon. The action continues on Saturday with the conclusion of the heptathlon as well as the men and women's weight throw, long jump and high jump in the field and finals in the 5,000-meter runs. The championship will conclude on Sunday with 22 track finals as well as pole vault, triple jump and shot put in the field.
BU was picked to finish first on the women’s side and third on the men’s in the Patriot League preseason poll. The defending Patriot League Champion women’s team received a whopping 162 points, capturing all 18 first-place votes from opposing schools in the women's poll to finish 35 points ahead of second-place Bucknell (137). The men’s team placed third in the PL preseason poll with 97 points behind favorite Navy (127) and Bucknell (114).
The Terriers have the top Patriot League mark in eight different events on the men's side. Senior Rich Peters had the top performance in the mile with a 3:59.58 time last weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational while junior Alec Olson posted the fourth-best mile time in the Patriot League (4:08.03) at the same meet.
Sophomore Cameron Williams leads the conference in the 200m run (21.18) and is fourth fastest in the 60m dash (6.94). Junior David Lagerberg is first in the 400m with a 47.03 time and posted the fourth best time in the 500m with a 1:04.32.
Sophomore Ethan Homan leads the conference in both the 800m and the 1000m events. Homan ran the 800m in 1:50.10 at last weekend’s David Hemery Valentine Invitational and posted a 2:22.90 in the 1000m at the John Thomas Terrier Classic earlier in the season.
Junior Kevin Thomas and classmate Alec Olson are the top-two performers in the 5000m with Thomas running a 14:00.53 and Olson a 14:11.98 at the Terrier Classic.
Junior David Oluwadara has the best performance in both the triple and the long jump heading into the championship while and junior Reuben Horace leads the conference with a 19.09 meter throw in the weight throw.
The defending PL Champion women's team boasts five of the top marks in the conference entering this weekend. Sophomore Sarah Saccoach owns multiple top times, besting the league in the 1 mile (4:52.94) and 5000m (16:42.19). Senior Rosa Moriello is number two in the 5000m with a time of 16:44.83.
Senior Gemma Acheampong has the second-best time in the 60m, having set the school record with a 7.49 at the Boston University Opener. Acheampong is also the conference leader in the 200m, posting a 24.41 at BU’s Scarlett & White Meet.
The Terriers could have a strong showing in the 60m hurdles, having the first, second and fourth-best times in the event this season. Junior Sophie Jancsurak (8.85), sophomore Ally Saccone (8.86) and sophomore Toria Levy (8.90) all should vie for the championship.

Following this weekend's meet, BU will host the New England Championships on Feb. 27 and 28 at the Track and Tennis Center.
