Boston University's late run fell short against the Bucknell women's basketball team and the Terriers (5-22, 2-14 PL) dropped a 58-50 decision to the Bison (16-10, 8-7) in Case Gym on Saturday afternoon. Senior Mollie McKendrick was honored prior to tip off of her final career home game.
Meghan Green led the game with a double-double, scoring 20 points and corralling 10 rebounds. Clodagh Scannell also reached double-figure scoring, tallying 12 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists.
Both teams started off slow, shooting under 30 percent overall in the first half, but stepped their performance up in the second stanza. The Terriers shot 64.3 percent from the field, the highest single-half showing of the season, in the second half but Bucknell outdid BU, shooting 73.7 percent (14-19) including a 6-of-7 performance from beyond the arc.
The Terriers dominated the paint, outscoring Bucknell 32-16. They also kept their turnovers to a minimum, committing a season-low 11. The Bison had 18 miscues which BU converted into 17 points.
The Bison were led by Jacquie Klotz who posted a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Bucknell had four players in double figures with Claire DeBoer, Audrey Dotson and Megan McGurk each adding 13 to the Bison total.
Bucknell got off to a fast start, quickly reaching a double-digit lead due to BU scoring just one field goal over the first seven minutes. The Bison reached their largest lead of the game mid-way through the first half, topping the Terriers 19-3 with 10 minutes left before halftime.
BU staged a comeback, however, going on a 10-0 run in the final 10 minutes to go into halftime with a 19-15 deficit.
The second half was marked by even play, with both teams exchanging runs through the first 10 minutes of the period but the Bison began to pull away with seven minutes left to play, reaching a 15-point advantage. The Terriers answered with a 9-0 run to cut the lead to six points with four minutes to play.
BU kept it the deficit to single digits for the rest of the game but their late efforts weren't enough to erase the Bison's early lead and the Terriers settled for a 65-60 loss in their home finale.
The Terriers are back in action on Wednesday when they make their way to Army for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
