BOSTON - Sophomore Caroline Meegan made a career-high 15 saves, but the Boston University women's lacrosse team dropped a 7-2 decision to Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon at New Balance Field.

BU (1-2) trailed UMass (4-0) by just one goal at 3-2 after 30 minutes, but the Minutewomen scored all four goals in the second half to secure the victory. Seniors Jenna Boarman and Lindsay Weiner each scored while junior Jill Horka had an assist.

Meegan was sensational in the first half, as she stopped 11 shots. The Terriers erased a 1-0 deficit and took a 2-1 lead with 10:42 left in the first half. Boarman opened the scoring when she took a pass from Weiner in the UMass half of the field and sprinted, uncontested, to the UMass cage before firing home her first goal of the season.

Weiner made it 2-0 thanks to a nifty feed from Horka. The goal was Weiner's third of the season with Horka picking up her second assist. The Terriers did well to protect their lead until the Minutewomen scored twice in a span of 1:56 to take a 3-2 lead into the second half.

UMass scored 4:04 into the final stanza before adding three more prior to time expiring. BU outshot UMass, 10-8, in the second half but Minutewoman goaltender Rachel Vallarelli made three of her nine saves in that span to preserve the result.

On the defensive end, senior Siobhan McCarthy collected three ground balls and caused two turnovers, both of which were team highs. Junior Sofia Robins also caused a pair of turnovers and added two ground balls. Redshirt junior Mallory Collins chipped in with two ground balls and a caused turnover.

The Terriers will return to action on Tuesday, March 3, when they welcome Dartmouth to Nickerson Field. Opening draw is set for 4 p.m.
