BOSTON - Led by Troi Melton's 16 second-half points, the Boston University women's basketball team's late comeback attempt was not enough to overcome Holy Cross's early lead and the Terriers settled for a 76-62 loss on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center.

Melton scored nine points in the final six minutes to get BU within eight points but her efforts weren't enough to right a 24-point deficit. After struggling to score in the first period, Melton went 7-of-10 from the floor in the second half.

Four Terriers were in double-figure scoring, with Mollie McKendrick adding 15 to the board and Courtney Latham and Corrine Williams tallying 10 points apiece.

Latham also had an impressive day, finishing just two rebounds and an assist shy of a triple-double. Her nine assists were a career high.

BU shot just over 43 percent overall and 48.3 percent in the second half to keep pace with the Crusaders, who shot 44.3 percent from the floor. The Terriers were strong on the fast break during the second half, totaling 10 points in transition. They also stepped up their post game in the final 20 minutes, outscoring Holy Cross 18-12 in the paint.

The Terriers were nipping at the heels of the Crusaders throughout most of the first half, which featured 10 lead changes and four tied scores. Neither team led by more than two points throughout the first 10 minutes of the game until Holy Cross went on a 14-2 run to take a 14-point lead by halftime.

McKendrick was the team's biggest producer in the first half, scoring 10 points and grabbing five rebounds. Latham was also an important contributor, assisting on four of BU's 12 field goals in the opening stanza.

Holy Cross came out strong in the second half, going on an 11-2 run in the first three minutes of the period to take a 23-point lead. The Crusaders maintained their advantage for the next eight minutes but BU wouldn't call it quits and went on a 11-0 run to come within 10 points of Holy Cross with three minutes left to play.

The Terriers managed to get the Crusader lead to single digits with less than two minutes remaining but it would be too little too late and BU settled for a 76-62 loss.

BU will play on Wednesday, March 4 against a team to be determined in the first round of the Patriot League Tournament.
