BOSTON -
The Terriers stayed tough and fought back from a four-goal first half deficit to defeat Lafayette, 14-11, on a snowy Saturday at Nickerson Field. BU battled the Leopards, and the elements, to improve to a 5-5 record and 3-1 mark in conference play.
BU was led by Mallory Collins who notched four goals and an assist (her first of the season), all during the second-half to help aid BU's comeback. Collins also led the team with three caused turnovers on the day.
Taylor Hardison and Ally Adams each contributed two goals and assists while Avery Donahoe recorded her first collegiate goal with a second-half strike that gave BU a two-goal advantage with 17 minutes to play.
Caroline Meegan made six saves including four in the second half to bolster BU's momentum.
Kirsten Wilhelmsen was the biggest trouble for the Terriers, scoring six goals including the first three of the game to give Lafayette a fast 3-0 lead.
The Leopards took a 3-0 lead within the first five minutes of the game thanks to sharp shooting by Wilhelmsen but Lindsay Weiner opened BU scoring soon after.
From there the teams exchanged goals four times to keep the game within a two-point margin but Lafayette scored two within the final four minutes to take its largest lead of the day, 8-4.
With a three-goal deficit coming out of halftime, BU started creating an offense and scored four of the first five goals of the second stanza to erase the Leopard lead for the first time and tie the game at 9-9 with 22 minutes still to play. Collins contributed two of these goals including the game-tying goal.
Lafayette regained the lead one more time less than one minute later but it would be the last advantage the Leopards would control for the remainder of the contest.
Adams tied the game at 10-10 before Collins whipped in a free position shot and then assisted on Donahoe's tally, which would eventually become the game-winner.
Lafayette struck once more before the end of the contest but BU didn't relent and netted two more to make the final tally 14-11.
BU is back in action on Saturday, April 4 at Lehigh. First draw is set for 1 p.m.
