BOSTON -Redshirt junior Mallory Collins and junior Remy Nolan combined for nine goals to help lead the Boston University women's lacrosse team to a 13-7 win over Dartmouth on Wednesday night at Nickerson Field.
BU improved to 2-2 thanks to an explosive first half in which the Terriers outscored Dartmouth (0-3) by an 8-3 margin. Both Nolan and Collins completed a hat trick in the opening 30 minutes, with Nolan's trio of markers her first three of the season.
Senior Lindsay Weiner had a strong game with a goal and three assists and was one of five different Terriers to find the back of the net. Junior Ally Adams, senior Kelsey Marafioti and junior Sofia Robins also scored while sophomore Taylor Hardison added an assist.
Sophomore Caroline Meegan made eight saves, including six in the second half, to help secure the victory. Junior Jill Horka claimed four draw controls and also led the Terriers with three caused turnovers. BU also gathered 18 ground balls, with Collins, Hardison and Marafioti each leading the team with three apiece.
Dartmouth opened the scoring just 1:54 into the proceedings but BU rattled off the next seven goals to take control of the contest for good. Weiner found Collins for the first BU goal before Adams converted a free-position shot moments later. Collins then tallied twice in a span of 27 seconds to put BU ahead, 4-1.
Weiner made it 5-1 just over two minutes later when she used a nice individual effort to get around the cage and score. Nolan then added two more goals to give the Terriers a 7-1 advantage. The Big Green got two goals back but Nolan scored with 18 seconds left to give BU an 8-3 halftime lead.
Collins began the second half with two more goals, but Dartmouth got it back to within six at 11-5 with 12:36 on the clock. Marafioti and Robins combined for back-to-back goals, however, to give the Terriers their largest lead of the game at 13-5 with just 7:58 remaining in regulation. Jaclyn Leto converted a pair of free-position chances to close the scoring.
The Terriers will begin Patriot League play on Saturday when they host American at Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
