SAN ANTONIO - The Boston University golf team teed off on Thursday morning in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Golf Regional hosted by Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
Despite having most of their belongings stolen shortly after they arrived on Tuesday afternoon, the Terriers have persevered and finished the first round in 15th place. Playing in an NCAA regional for the first time, BU finished just four strokes back of Houston and is within eight shots of placing inside the top 12.
Sophomore Adela Cejnarova, the Patriot League individual champion, was one of two Terriers to finish with a 74. Freshman Phyllis Tang joined Cejnarova with that score. Junior Emily Tillo was one shot back of that duo with a opening-round 75. Cejnarova, Tang and Tillo were terrific on their opening nine holes. With BU beginning Thursday on the 10th hole, the trio all made the turn at even par.
Senior Kristyna Pavlickova bounced back on her second nine to finish with an 81. Junior Sarah Easton sank a pair of birdies and had a stretch of five straight pars en route to an 84. Pavlickova and Tang were each plus-two on their final nine holes.
BU ranked ninth in the 18-team field in birdies with 15. Cejnarova led the Terriers with five birdies and each of the five players made at least two birdies during the round.
The Terriers will tee off in the second round on Friday morning at 8:24 CT.
