SAN ANTONIO - The Boston University golf team completed the final round of the NCAA Women's Golf Regional hosted by Briggs Ranch Golf Club on Saturday afternoon.
Playing in the program's first-ever NCAA regional, BU finished 17th with a three-day total of 932 (304-315-313). The Terriers' best day came in the opening round, when they combined to card a 304 and finish the day in 15th place.
"This was an exciting week for BU golf," seventh-year head coach Bruce Chalas said. "This is the biggest tournament we've ever played. We played with teams like Washington, Baylor, Tennessee and Oregon. It was a real thrill for our team. I think they all played well."
Junior Emily Tillo led the Terriers thanks to a consistent week and a terrific final round. She fired a two-over 74 on Saturday after back-to-back 75s to finish at eight-over with a 224. Tillo made six birdies on Saturday and finished the week with nine overall. Her performance this weekend capped a year in which she was the repeat Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year, runner-up at the conference championship and a two-time Patriot League Golfer of the Month.
Senior Kristyna Pavlickova closed her outstanding collegiate career on Saturday. A five-time individual champion at BU, Pavlickova finished her last three holes in one-under, including an emotional putt for par to conclude her round. She carded a 166 over her first and her final round. Pavlickova's best day came on Friday when she fired a 78 before her round was disqualified.
"She got up to 16 and said 'I've got a couple birdies left in me,'" Chalas said. "She made a great par on 16, on 17 she nearly made a putt for eagle and then made a great attempt for birdie on the last hole. It was a great four years. We had a lot of fun and we were lucky to have her."
Freshman Phyllis Tang impressed in her NCAA debut with a 54-hole score of 226. She shot a 74 in each of her first two rounds before closing with a 79 on Saturday. Tang sank five birdies over her three days in San Antonio after being named Most Outstanding Rookie at the Patriot League Championship.
Sophomore Adela Cejnarova entered the NCAA regional having earned back-to-back victories, and she closed her sensational season with a 233 (74-81-78). A two-time Patriot League Golfer of the Month, Cejnarova collected six birdies on Thursday and had an eagle on Friday. Junior Sarah Easton turned in her best round of the tournament on Saturday, shooting an 82 to total a 251 (84-85-82). She made five pars over her last nine holes in the closing round.
BU enjoyed its most successful season under the guidance of Chalas in 2014-15. The Terriers opened their season with a victory at the Dartmouth Invitational and won their first-ever Patriot League Championship. Cejnarova won two individual titles and Tillo also claimed one, winning in her season-debut at Dartmouth.
"This is going to be great for our program going forward," Chalas said. "Next year we can say that we've got a purpose, and that's to get back to the NCAA Tournament."
