Despite an even game throughout the first 70 minutes of play, the Northwestern women's soccer team put on the afterburners to claim a 2-0 victory over Boston University on Friday night at Marquette's Valley Fields.
The Terriers (0-2-1) allowed the first goal of the game to be scored in the 72nd minute, which would ultimately keep the Wildcats (3-0-0) perfect on the season.
Northwestern edged BU in shots, 11-10 but the key differential came in shots on net, in which the Wildcats outdid the Terriers, 6-3. NU had one extra try from the corner, 3-2, though neither team was afforded many opportunities.
Alyssa Parisi made four saves while Northwestern's Lauren Clem tallied three throughout the match.
The Wildcats found their answer 72 minutes into the game when Kim Jerantowski booted a shot from four yards out off of a pass from Addie Steiner to end the scoreless game. NU scored again in the 87th minute when Steiner capitalized on Parisi's miscue in the midfield to seal her team's victory.
The Terriers are back in action on Sunday when they take on their host, Marquette, at 2 p.m.
