HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Terriers dominated possession and had one of its best offensive efforts in a half this season throughout the first period, putting 8 shots on net, but the Army West Point keeper made heroic saves to stop some incredible shots by BU, leaving the game scoreless at halftime.
- Erica Kosienski was the one to end the drought, corralling a pass from Chelsea Churchill on the left side of the goal and squeaking one inside the far post to give the Terriers a 1-0 lead. It was the first goal of the season for Kosienski, who has been a key piece of the offensive puzzle for BU this season.
- After hitting the crossbar on what looked like a sure-thing goal, Kelly Park netted the eventual game-winner in the 61st minute, finding a loose ball in front of the net and sending a low shot past the keeper to make it a two-goal lead for the Terriers.
- It took her just two minutes to score again, this time using a pass from classmate Shannon Keefe and sailing in a shot from 25 yards out to make it a 3-0 BU lead.
- Army ended the shutout with just over six minutes to play when Samantha Sullenger was able to evade a BU defender and get one past Emma Heil, who made her first career appearance against the Black Knights.
GAME NOTES
- The win extends BU's unbeaten streak to eight games, which includes a seven-game win streak in conference matches.
- The Terriers outshot the Black Knights, 28-5, including 14-5 on target.
- BU also earned more corners than Army West Point, and was awarded seven while the Black Knights had three over the course of the game.
- BU remains unbeaten against Army with a 4-0-1 all-time record.
QUOTEABLE: HEAD COACH NANCY FELDMAN
- "Hannah Ciolek and Bridget Conway have grown into being core contributors this season and maybe they started off like everybody, not quite experienced, but they caught up fast and we're going to need them to make that one big save to tip the game."
- "We needed to come out in the second half how we ended the first, keeping our foot on the gas, being really aggressive and winning territory. I thought a key part of the game was our territorial advantage. When you start continuing to play in their half of the field, it wears the other team down."
- "Kelly Park has a really healthy confidence in her ability and she's smart. She's a smart kid on the soccer field and she's coachable. Every time you give her a piece of information, she applies it, and that's not easy to do when you're a young player because you have a lot coming at you."
