Three-Goal First Half Tops Lafayette, 3-0

October 8, 2016

BOSTON—A dominant offense throughout the first half led to the Boston University women's soccer team's fourth-straight clean sheet, defeating Lafayette, 3-0, at Nickerson Field on Saturday afternoon.

Throughout the week, the Terriers raised money to benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Center and, with the addition of today's gate, the team surpassed their goal of $1,000 and will be donating over $1,900 to the center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Terriers used an early goal to ultimately decide the game, as McKenna Doyle sent a pass from the end line to Shreck, who settled it eight yards out and sent in the game-winner for the second time this season. The goal was reminiscent of her first of the year, which was also created from an end line pass.
  • BU struck again when Rachel Blauner cleaned up a loose ball in front of the net, which was sent in by Erika Kosienski from the left side of the field. Shreck went to shoot the ball but it was a step too far for her to get a foot on it and Blauner was there to take the shot and score her second goal in as many games.
  • Doyle finally found a goal of her own to collect three points on the night when Alivya Wimmer sent a free kick to the top of the 6-yard box that Doyle was able to connect with despite close coverage by a Lafayette defender.
  • The offensive efforts slowed throughout the second half as BU filtered through personnel, getting nearly everyone on the bench into the game.

GAME NOTES
  • The Terriers dominated possession and out-shot Lafayette, 19-4 including 8-3 in attempts on target.
  • Lafayette stemmed all of BU's second-half efforts, making four of the team's five saves during that half. Bridget Conway and Hannah Ciolek made a total of three stops against the Leopards to co-earn the shutout.
  • The Terriers remain undefeated, all-time, against Lafayette, now owning a 4-0-0 series record.

NEXT UP: HARVARD
  • BU closes its non-conference schedule on Tuesday night at Harvard.
  • First kick is set for 7 p.m. on Jordan Field and the game will be aired live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
