Terriers Defeat Princeton, 4-1

BOSTON -  Senior Victoria Hanson made a career-high 41 saves and junior Nina Rodgers collected a career-high three points to lead the Boston University women's ice hockey team to a 4-1 win over Princeton on Friday night at Walter Brown Arena.

TURNING POINT

  • With just 1:47 remaining in regulation and the score at 2-1, Rodgers redirected an shot from freshman Abby Cook to put the Terriers ahead by a pair of goals. 

GOAL-BY-GOAL

  • BU struck twice in the first 1:58 of the game to take a lead it never surrendered. Senior Maddie Elia started the scoring with her sixth goal of the season. After Rodgers won a battle along the boards, junior Rebecca Leslie gathered the puck in the neutral zone and skated into the Princeton zone before feeding Elia. The senior finished the play with a shot from the slot.
  • Senior Samantha Sutherland extended the lead to 2-0 and ended the night early for Princeton goaltender Alysia DaSilva (1 save). Sophomore Sammy Davis forced a turnover in the neutral zone and Sutherland skated into the Tiger end and beat DaSilva for her ninth goal of the season.
  • It became a 2-1 Terrier lead just 39 seconds into the middle stanza when Sylvie Wallin scored on a power play.
  • After Rodgers' goal as a BU power play expired made it 3-1, graduate student Mary Parker deposited the puck into an empty net for her 14th goal of the season.

GAME NOTES

  • Parker extended her point streak to eight games (8g, 5a), having scored a goal in each of the last seven games.
  • In addition to her career-high three points, Rodgers also matched her career high for assists with two, a mark she set on Tuesday at Harvard. She now has five points (1g, 4a) in the Terriers' last two games.
  • Hanson bested her career high in saves thanks to her 41-stop performance on Friday night. She previously stopped 40 shots in an NCAA quarterfinal contest at Wisconsin on March 14, 2015.
  • Sutherland also added an assist for a two-point night.
  • BU held Princeton to just 1-of-7 on the power play.
  • After DaSilva was pulled, Steph Neatby entered the game and stopped 24 shots.
