HANOVER, N.H. -
Despite a strong showing throughout the majority of the game, the Boston University women's lacrosse team was edged by Dartmouth, 15-13, on Tuesday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field.
Mickenzie Larivee and Ally Adams led the BU attack as senior midfielder Adams totaled a team-high five points (3g, 2a) and sophomore attacker Larivee tallied four goals on the day. Jill Horka was also a dominant force on the field, matching her career-high with nine draw controls while also contributing a goal and two assists.
The Terriers outshot the Big Green, 30-24 and tied in turnovers at 14 apiece. Fouls proved to be troublesome for the Terriers, as Dartmouth was able to score four goals off of free positions.
BU got off to a dominant start to the game, jumping out to a 3-1 lead five minutes in, thanks to two points each from Horka and Adams on three-straight Terrier goals. Dartmouth answered with a run of its own, however, scoring three-straight midway through the first half to regain the lead, 5-4.
The pair exchanged goals for the remaining 12 minutes until the score settled on a 7-7 tie at halftime.
Dartmouth came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Terriers, 4-2 over the first 10 minutes of the period. The Terriers kept it close for a long stretch but Dartmouth went on to score three straight goals while holding BU scoreless for nearly 10 minutes to find the largest differential of the game, 14-10.
Caroline English then scored two free position goals to cut down the Dartmouth advantage but it was not enough to overcome the four-goal deficit and the Terriers settled for a 15-13 loss.
BU is back in action on Tuesday, March 8 when the Terriers play at American for the Patriot League opener. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
