Saturday's Results | Sunday's Results

The No. 2 Boston University women's lightweight rowing team continued their impressive spring season this Saturday and Sunday, competing at the Lightweight Invitational on the Charles River. The weekend of racing was highlighted by the Terriers' 1st place finish in the Founders Cup team point standings.

Competing in preliminary races on Saturday and heats and finals racing on Sunday, the Terriers finished the regatta with 9 points and won a tie breaker over Wisconsin by finishing ahead of the Badgers in Sunday's grand final.

"The Lightweight Invite has become one of the most highly anticipated events on the calendar for us," said head women's lightweight rowing coach Malcolm Doldron on Sunday. "Although we see Stanford and Wisconsin a few times during the season, this is the only chance to race them on our home water. I'm proud of how the group performed this weekend. It took a team effort to retain the Founders Cup points trophy. Our crews raced with tons of passion, but it will take precision to go faster going forward."

In the varsity eight grand final on Sunday, the 1V, coxed by senior Rachel Cohn and stroked by freshman Janice Hagerman, finished second with at time of 6:40.5. Defending national champion Stamford was first with a time of 6:32.8 and Wisconsin finished third (6:45.2) in the three-boat final.

Earlier in the day, the BU 1V finished with the fastest times in heat racing with a time of 6:44.5 to advance to the grand final.

Racing in the 2V grand final, BU's 2V, coxed by sophomore Allie Triola and stroked by senior Cynthia Herrera, finished with a time of 6:51.3, second to Wisconsin (6:44.9) in the grand final. The 2V advanced to the finals by defeating MIT in a heat race with a time of 7:13.6 to MIT's 7:42.8.

After this weekend's competition, the lightweights will next race at the Lightweight Beanpot on April 23.
