The entire senior class contributed to the Boston University women's lacrosse team's dominant 14-3 win against Army West Point on a sunny Saturday afternoon on Nickerson Field.
The seven seniors were honored prior to the start of the game and did not disappoint on the field as five tallied a point in the game and Jill Horka dominated the draw circle, grabbing seven draw controls to beat her own BU season record. She now has 70 draw controls this season with at least one game left to play.
Senior Mallory Collins matched her career-high with five goals while classmate Remy Nolan recorded a hat trick. Ally Adams and Jenny Thompson each scored a goal while Louisa Del Rio dished out an assist and Sofia Robins led the defensive unit that allowed just three shots and seven total shots on net.
BU outshot the Black Knights, 31-14 and won 15 draw controls to Army's four. BU was also excellent in clearing defense, limiting Army to just 7-of-13 clearing attempts.
The Terriers got off to a fast start, scoring the first three goals of the game . Nolan scored her first of the day to open the contest and Kelly Mathews followed it up with a strike of her own just 10 seconds later. Kaitlin Belval then sent in a free position shot, one of three BU scored on the day, to give the Terriers a 3-0 lead five minutes into the contest.
Army was able to score one goal before BU went on a run of eight straight goals spanning both halves to take a 10-goal lead and earn a running clock. Collins scored all five of her goals during the run including four of the first five goals in the stretch. Taylor Hardison assisted on two of them to help her match her career-high with four assists on the day.
The Black Knights ended their 35 minute scoring drought midway through the second half but BU countered with three more goals to reach its largest lead of the day, 14-2.
The Terriers will play in the quarterfinal round of the Patriot League Tournament on Tuesday, May 3 against an opponent to be determined.
