The No. 2 Boston University women's lightweight varsity 8 boat opened its spring season competing at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday. The V8 finished second behind defending national champion Stanford and ahead of Princeton.
The V8, coxed by senior Rachel Cohn and stroked by classmate Savannah Keller, finished with a time of 7:28.9, behind winner Stanford (7:16.8) but ahead of 3rd place Princeton (7:41.3) in the three-boat race. The race was a rematch of three of the six boats that took part in the IRA National Championship grand final last May. Stanford finished first in that race, winning the national championship title, while BU finished third and Princeton finished fourth.
In addition, on Friday the Terriers were ranked tied for No. 2 in the USRowing preseason women’s lightweight poll with Harvard. Defending national champion Stanford took fist in the poll with 86 points followed by BU and Harvard each with 83.
