American Pulls Away From Terriers, 73-62

Washington, D.C. - Junior Sophie Beadury scored a career-high 27 points, but the Boston University women's basketball team dropped a hard fought 73-62 decision to American on Wednesday night at Bender Arena.

THE TURNING POINT

  • Junior Corrine Williams made a layup with 1:05 left in the third quarter to cut the American lead four points (51-47), forcing American to call a timeout. After the timeout, the Eagles went on a 13-1 run over the next six minutes to open up a 64-48 lead with 5:28 to play in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Senior Sophie Beaudry opened the scoring but American went on an early 10-0, with all five starters scoring a field goal, to force BU to call timeout with 6 minutes to play in the first quarter with the Eagles leading 10-2.
  • Trailing 16-6 with 20 seconds to go in the first quarter, junior Corrine Williams hit a 3-pointer then made a steal on the inbound pass. Williams fed senior Courtney Latham for a layup and the Terriers cut the Eagles lead to 16-11 after one quarter.
  • BU came out in the second quarter and continued on a ten point run to tie the game at 16. Junior Sophie Beaudry scored 12 points in the second quarter alone as the two teams headed to the locker rooms with American clinging to a 34-33 lead in the back-and-forth contest.
  • Kaitlyn Lewis hit a three pointer to extend America's lead to 46-39 with 4:31 to go to go in the third. Lewis led the Eagles with five points in the quarter as the Eagles extended their lead to five points, 52-47 at the end of three.
Game Notes
  • The Eagles had four players in double figures with Emily Kinneston (9 points) the lone American starter not to score at least 10 points.
  • American out-rebounded BU, 39-27 and had a big advantage on the offensive glass (17-6).
  • BU had the advantage in field-goal percentage. BU shot 25-50 (50.0%) while American shot 27-64 (42.2%).
  • The game had five ties and nine lead changes.
  • Corrine Williams led the Terriers in rebounding with eight while Courtney Latham led the Terriers in assists with six.
