BOSTON - Despite holding No. 2 Duke to a season-low 10 shots on the day, the No. 22 Boston University field hockey team dropped a 5-1 contest to the Blue Devils on Sunday afternoon at New Balance Field.
Junior
Ally Hammel capped off a strong weekend with BU's lone goal as the Terriers move to 6-5 on the year.
How it Happened
- Duke was opportunistic throughout the game, beginning with the first shot of the day, as Ashley Kristen found Rose Tynan in the center of the circle for a 1-0 lead at the 5:36 mark.
- The Blue Devils extended their lead in the 14th minute when Erin Scherrer took advantage of a misplayed ball and found the boards above the right post.
- Less than five minutes later, a redirect off a Duke corner pushed the visitors' lead to 3-0 with the goal coming from Stephanie Pezzuti.
- Hammel notched her third goal of the weekend at 26:44 when she drilled a corner shot to the bottom left corner off assists by seniors Jordyn Beesmer and Kali Shumock.
- In the 44th minute, a deflected ball made its way to Gallagher, who sent home a shot from the top of the circle to push the lead to 3-0.
- The Terriers controlled possession for a good portion of the second half but yielded goals from Kristen and Tynan in the 53rd and 65th minutes, respectively, to create the 5-1 final.
